Walking in the Autumn Garden

Walking in the Autumn Garden

Acrylic
By Mara Duckens

This 18”x24” painting is inspired by the early 20th century works of Henri Rousseau; however, set in my neck of the woods - the prairie gardens of the American Midwest. I love incorporating bold colors into my acrylic paintings, and Wisconsin’s autumn blooms provided the inspiration for how I would handle this portrait. The garden colors are echoed throughout the hair and face, while the absence of color in the cloak intends to ground the work. This painting will be on view at the Museum of Wisconsin Art’s Member Show December 10, 2022 - January 22, 2023.
